Mismatching Scarf

How can this be??? I knit this beautiful scarf ("My So Called Scarf") for my dear sweet mother, and the skein changed into a different color pattern! Not variegated, but a different variegation! I am mortified. I tried to convince her to have a shorter scarf, but she had no such intentions. I won't identify the name of the yarn and embarrass the company, but let's just say I didn't get my $15 worth!
